Nigerians Should Embrace Farming To Revive Economy - Traditional Ruler

The traditional ruler of Atani community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Royal Highness, Igwe Augustine Ngoddy said the best way to revive Nigerian’s dwindling economy is for the citizens to go back to agriculture.

Igwe Ngoddy therefore called on the farmers in his community to embrace the initiatives of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and that of Anambra state Governor, Dr. Willie Obiano on massive rice production.

The traditional ruler was of the view that the nation will survive the harsh economic situation if only the citizens sideline oil as the country’s major economic mainstay and adopt agriculture as an alternative.

Speaking with newsmen in his palace during the celebration of this year’s new yam festival, Igwe Ngoddy said “even though our town stands as the highest yam producing community in the South East , there is need for all of us to answer the clarion call of both the Federal and Anambra State governments on massive rice production.”

He said Governor Obiano’s agricultural policy has started yielding dividends and adding value to the economy of Anambra state and South East in general. The monarch also said the state stands as number one in the nation on export of vegetables and other farm produce to other parts of the world.

“It is now in the history of the nation that Anambra State remains number one in Nigeria to have embarked on vegetables’ exports as well as other farm crops. The high demands of Anambra rice by consumers across the nation is quite encouraging and this should stand as a challenge to we farmers.

He appealed to both Federal and state governments to Appealing to always encourage farmers by giving them incentives that will help them for mechanized agriculture and mass production of agricultural products.
