Man United players banned from swapping shirts because it's 'not cost effective'

According to the Sun, Jose Mourinho's Manchester United players have apparently been banned by the club's business heads from swapping shirts with opponents at the end of games because it is not deemed 'cost effective'.

In a shock revelation from the Sun, United players have supposedly been asked not to give their shirts away to opposing players, or even hand them to fans in the crowd.

"They are asked not to swap shirts so they don't have to be replaced. It seems daft given how much the club is worth," a source claimed.

"The owners have a reputation for keeping an eye on costs."

The tabloid newspaper alleges that despite United being valued at more than £2bn and regularly featuring near the top of annual world sport rich lists, club officials are not keen on having to replace shirts every time a player gives one away.

United's American owners, the Glazer family, have transformed the club from being successful on the pitch to an unstoppable commercial juggernaut off it. But this 'cost cutting' to maximise profit seems a stretch even for such business sharks.

What makes this one particularly hard to fathom is that players at elite Premier League clubs in 2016 do not wear the same shirt week after week, washed in between games.

They do lower down the Football League ladder where money is scarcer, but not at the highest level, unless United's first-team is operating on the budget of a League Two club.

Do you believe the claims that shirt swapping has been banned at United, or is this just tabloid bolony?
