Army To Deploy Drones For Election Monitoring

The Nigeria Army on Tuesday said that it would deploy drones during the September 28 governorship election in Edo State – as part of the efforts to ensure a hitch-free exercise across the state.

The Commander of the 4 Brigade Command, Brig.-Gen. Raji Benbela, disclosed this during a “Show of Force” organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in Benin, on Wednesday.

This came just as the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Fimihan Adeoye, assured voters that adequate arrangements had been made to protect their rights to choose the next governor.

Benbela explained that the devices would be used to provide aerial surveillance in the 18 local government areas and expose the activities of hoodlums.

He said, “In addition, the governorship election is around the corner and the Nigerian Army, in its constitutional responsibility, has a duty to protect lives and property of citizens.

“This is what informed the decision to organise this exercise in collaboration with sister security agencies with a view to giving Edo voters the confidence to exercise their franchise.”

The commander emphasised that soldiers would be deployed in key locations.
